The development of business telephony

Business telephone systems have been changing for a very long time period now, it’s a technology which is perpetually kept up to date for decades and the improvements of that have been quite outstanding.

One great improvement is the cost, with improvements in technology, many systems moving over to VoIP and hybrid setups, the telephony market has gone from strength to strength as more advanced systems and services become obtainable for smaller companies opening up the market a fair bit. This has given rise to a large amount of businesses moving their equipment from the old fashioned phone systems to more modern systems including VoIP, Mitel being one of the forerunners in this industry with their range of communication platforms integrating VoIP and even hybrid capacities.

Even more recently though, the place which has been becoming more popular lately is mobile. Even with the significant advancements in telecommunications, in person meetings are still a successful tool in business, as well as needs for people on job sites doing field work. So something that most organizations wont be able to avoid for a long time, if ever, is having it’s staff members out and about, meeting with people, solving issues, setting things up. The drawback of that, is that so long as that person is away from the office, contacting them becomes substantially tougher, which in turn can also make it more costly dialling into conference calls from a mobile phone for example.

The solution to this is more sophisticated telecom systems; telecom systems which include cellular technology can substantially help reduce calling costs. It also has many other benefits associated with it, such as being able to forward calls from an office phone to a mobile when that person is on the move. This can be especially important for smaller companies which may have a small number of personnel; in such circumstances turning somebody away due to a lack of somebody able to deal with an concern can seem unprofessional and reflect badly on an agency, while connecting people to who they need to talk to fast an efficiently can really make a corporation seem professional and even larger than they are.

In turn in many situations, this has made it easier for companies to crack “glass ceilings” and grow their size due to getting larger more high profile job opportunities. Telecommunications can be a bit of a risk though, depending on what you have already and wish to upgrade to, it can still be costly and if you get a telephone system outside your bracket, it could end up costing you more money than needed. In any event, you really want to consider it at least, and preserve your options open, the best solution might well be something you hadn’t considered before.

Evolution or Innovation

VoIP technology has come a long way in the past decade, but was it evolution of existing technology or pure innovation. The obvious answer being a bit of both, I discuss it a bit more in this article and come out with some conclusions of my own.
